Educating children with new simple ideas

At the age of 4 to 7 years, children are entering the intuitive stage. At this period, his/her imagination is growing rapidly, so no wonder in some occasion he/she is still confusing to distinguish between reality and fantasy. For him, Santa Claus or Superman, for example, is real and living side by side with him/her.

Fantasy is normal and some researcher believe that fantasy and imagination could develop his or her sense and attract his or her brain development. But sometimes because of this growing imagination, then what is told by child feels inconsequential and less sense to adults, so often misinterpreted as a form of lying.

Scaffolding is a concept based on the theory proposed by Lev Vygotsky, known as, ‘Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)’. It is one of the most popular teaching methods in education. In this mode of instruction a teacher helps the student initially, to learn a new concept and offers maximum assistance.

Gradually, the teacher sets up newer tasks for the students to perform and apply their knowledge independently. The zone of proximal development literally means the distance between what children can do on their own and what they can do when assisted by an adult. Scaffolding in education is a strategy in which a knowledgeable person equips the student and provides him with all the information and support to acquire or learn a particular thing.

Although they no longer enjoy the same popularity as they did in the olden times, puppets are largely used in education of younger kids. Different from the more popular forms of entertainment and also more life-like, puppets are used as characters that interact with children.

Children seem to respond better and communicate more easily with the lively puppets than with real people. Puppet shows are widely used to narrate stories, to teach concepts and morals to kids.
